About

Stockport Birth Services was established in 2016 by Meg Hill and aims to help people achieve better births through education and empowerment. Three key principles underpin the work we do.

We are:

Community-based: Our community is both pregnant people and our geographical community. We exist to facilitate your knowledge, encourage your own empowerment and support your decision-making. Whatever that might be.

Political: We will name, challenge, and seek to address the inequality, oppression and injustice in our communities.

Passionate: Fiercely and unapologetically so. We’ll balance that with empathy, sympathy and a nice cup of tea.

Hear a little from the founder below.

“I’m Meg. I’ve got 3 wonderful (mostly!) children of my own and have had 3 very different pregnancy and perinatal experiences. I’m passionate about all things birth-related and have been for over a decade, during which time I’ve seen a lot of things change! I’m also passionate about helping people like you access the information you need to make the decisions that are right for your family.

I’ve a wealth of experience to offer you including:

  • teaching evidence-based antenatal classes in Stockport since 2016
  • being a qualified Hypnobirthing practitioner
  • holding a child development qualification with a focus on the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development from pregnancy through to 5 years of age
  • previously being a breastfeeding peer supporter under Stepping Hill Hospital for many years
  • training with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers to be able to offer you up to date, evidence-based breastfeeding support
  • training in holistic approaches to pregnancy, birth and beyond such as rebozo
  • being Chair of the Stockport Maternity Voices Partnership, helping to improve maternity care across your local community
  • working with organisations such as NHS England and universities at a national level to ensure service user voices are heard in the work they carry out
  • holding a pgCert in Public Health with a focus on women’s health, working with communities, and working with under served communities.

I’ve always believed that people should be their own best champions in health-related matters – after all, who knows your body better than you? Which is why I feel strongly that everyone should have the information and knowledge they need to be able to make the best decisions for them on their birthing day and beyond as they become parents.

I’m particularly keen to help parents who for whatever reason are particularly vulnerable through the perinatal time; whether that’s because of previous birth trauma, mental health issues, the inability to pay for extra support, or any other reason. I don’t think the ability to pay should stop you from accessing independent, evidence-based education so I offer reduced or free spaces to those who need them – no questions asked.

I love what I do, and I look forward to speaking to you soon.

Meg x”
